EVERYTHING IS DUE MAY 31

After May 31 in English all we are working on is second and third drafts of the identity paper.

After May 31 in history all we are working on is the final unit.

IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG AND YOU HATE THE OUTCOME WE WILL TALK IN AUGUST. But that will not be easy and I don’t know what restrictions I will be under in terms of making up this semester, so let’s GIT ER DONE

QUESTION BOX

Q. Why do you think the Identity Paper is difficult to write? It seems like such an easy paper, but it's proving to be increasingly more difficult the more I write. Not technically, but mentally or emotionally.

A. It can be challenging to write about yourself. I have tried to make it safe for you by allowing you to share only with me. Also, I’m asking for narration—and that is different from argumentation and exposition (like rhetorical analysis). I want you to take risks, and I want you to realize that who you are will continue to grow and change. You are not writing a manifesto or a constitution. It’s a snapshot in time. Who are you RIGHT NOW? What stories tell us who you are? What matters? What do I need to know about you?

STARTING the piece isn’t hard. Think of a story you want to tell about yourself. Start by taking me to the setting. As the reader, what can I see in the setting? What can I hear? Smell? The story will develop from there.

If you’re not successful with narration and alternation, you will not get the outcome you hope for, so let’s get started if you haven’t already.
